CAMX Draws Biggest Crowd Ever!

Thank you to everyone who participated in CAMX 2018, making it a great success! The premier composites event co-located with IFAI 2018 for the first-time and attracted a combined audience of nearly 12,000 industry professionals to Dallas, TX. Attendees were thrilled by new products and technologies that will impact a broad range of markets, including aerospace, automotive, architecture, 3-D printing, marine, transportation, recycling, wind energy, software, construction and infrastructure, sports and leisure, university research and more. Highlights included:

  • Nearly 1,700 new attendees made CAMX 2018 their first CAMX.
  • CAMX offered 237 sessions on topics covering every subject in the industry.
  • 7,157 registrants from the composites and advanced materials communities in the United States and abroad attended.
  • 567 exhibitors made CAMX 2018 the largest CAMX expo ever!

CAMX Award Winners Announced!

CAMX 2018 offered a glimpse into the evolution of the global composites industry, from materials and technology to business partnership and global market trends. 2018 Media Partner, Composites World, was onsite to report on all of the new developments and activity on Exhibit Hall show floor. CAMX 2018 – Seeing is Believing

The CAMX Awards, sponsored by Ashland, were presented at CAMX 2018 during the General Session. The award recognizes two cutting-edge innovations that will significantly impact composites and advance materials. The Combined Strength Award celebrates a product that incorporates composites materials solutions through teamwork and collaboration, and the Unsurpassed Innovation Award celebrates a product with a design that incorporates low-cost materials for high-volume applications that can change the outlook of a particular market. ACE Winners Announced!

The American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) announced the winners for the Awards for Composites Excellence (ACE), sponsored by Composites One, on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. The winning entries and finalists were on display in the ACE Pavilion at CAMX 2018.

In the design category, the Most Creative Application Award went to West Virginia University for developing an Energy Absorbing, Durable, Fire Resistant, Cost-effective, NextGen Composite System.

In the manufacturing category, the Equipment and Tooling Innovation Award went to Ruiz Aerospace Manufacturing for its Smart Manufacturing Helper Using Internet-of-Things and Industry 4.0.

The manufacturing category also featured the Materials and Process Innovation Award, which went to Magna Exteriors for its Torsional Welding of PDC Sensors on Thin Wall Fascia.

Finally, in the market growth category, the Infinite Possibility Award went to Oak Ridge National Laboratory for its Large Area 3D Printer for Thermoset Materials.

General Session Spotlights New Trends and Materials

CAMX 2018 started with an exciting General Session featuring Dr. Charles Kuehmann, current VP of Materials Engineering for both SpaceX and Tesla Motors and former product design leader at Apple. Kuehmann a passionate presentation about SpaceX programs, including their primary goal to help humanity become a multi-planet species. He explained that SpaceX aims to help establish a million-person Mars colony in the next 50 to 100 years. Dr. Kuehmann also describes how Tesla’s goal is to ‘make life on earth better’ with products that will make ‘solar and renewable energy an easy choice for people’.
