CAMX Connection – August 9, 2017

Composites recycling: Gaining traction

Technology to recycle carbon fiber, glass fiber and — at last — resins is viable and operational, able to handle everything from uncured prepreg to finished parts and structures. What the composites industry needs now is the maturation of the market for recycled and repurposed material. More.

Your CAMX 2017 Guide

There are only a few weeks until CAMX 2017, featuring a full conference program with more than 250 conference sessions and feature experts in more than 100 topics. Attendees can search the entire program by track, event type, or speaker name. Here is your guide to make the most of CAMX 2017!

On the first day of CAMX, attendees can attend pre-conference tutorials that take an in-depth look at a wide range of topics, including tooling, thermosets and thermoplastics, gel coat repair, and more.

The General Session on September 12 will kick off with CAMX Live! – a series of three dynamics presentations given by industry trailblazers will provide examples of how companies are creating disruptive innovation in multiple markets by thinking about designing and creating in new ways to make radical changes to products and the industry. This year, Boom Technology Structural Engineer Bryce Knight, Composites Building Structures President/CEO James Antonic, and Oracle Team USA Designer Kurt Jordan will be speaking.  The General Session is open to all attendees and exhibitors.

Featured Sessions, which are developed by a joint team of ACMA and SAMPE members, will cover trending hot topics in the industry, such as recycling, additive manufacturing, modeling and simulation, and bonding of hybrid joints for automotive applications.

The Conference Program will also feature the innovations of young minds in the composites industry at the Poster Session. On display throughout CAMX for all to read and learn from, the Posters are written by students, universities and company researchers. On September 14, CAMX will present the Outstanding Paper Awards to ten researchers from the composites industry, academia and the government who put together well-written, interesting and groundbreaking technical papers. This year’s winners are:

  • Antonio Paesano, Boeing
  • Hardik Dalal, The Boeing Company
  • Jonathan Garhart, Sikorsky – Lockheed Martin
  • Amit Naskar, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
  • Scott Huelskamp, University of Dayton Research Institute
  • Nobuo Takeda, The University of Tokyo

The show will conclude with a panel of composites and advanced materials professionals who have learned how to use social media to their advantage. Make sure to follow @the_CAMX, @ACMAcomposites, and @SAMPE for show updates, and to post about your own experience with the hashtag #CAMX17.
