CAMX 2016: The final report
With CAMX 2016 quickly receding, we offer this the full, complete and final report on what was seen, what was heard and what was new at North America’s largest composites industry event. And we hope to see you next year at CAMX 2017, Sept. 11-14 in Orlando, Florida. More.
Looking ahead to CAMX 2017
When CAMX debuted in Orlando in 2014, ACMA and SAMPE set the bar high for what the industry now expects from North America’s premier composites and advanced materials event. In 2017, CAMX returns to Orlando as a much different conference with new innovations from leading companies, an exciting, revamped exhibit hall lay-out with new interactive features and product showcases throughout the hall and a theater, as well as additional networking and engagement opportunities!
In 2014, CAMX drew roughly 7,100 attendees from 44 countries all over the world. Over the past two years in Dallas and Anaheim, that number has grown to nearly 8,000 attendees from more than 50 countries. Roughly 1,000 people came to CAMX for the first time in 2016.
This year, CAMX debuted a number of new features, including CAMX Live! and the CAMX Race. The event has also placed a greater emphasis on the next generation of professionals, giving students a chance to speak about their vision of the future of the composites industry. The new features mirror the growth and diversification of the industry, as well as the enthusiasm surrounding new composite material innovations in aerospace, automotive, architecture, wind energy, recycling and 3-D printing, among other markets.
For Jennifer Hawkins, a consultant at Tecnon OrbiChem, that feeling was palpable in Anaheim. For her, one of the things that stood out the most during CAMX 2016 was the “attitude” of the industry.
“There is just so much excitement now about the potential of what’s going to happen in [2017 and] 2018,” she said. The excitement was particularly apparent, she added, during CAMX Live! Being able to see how composites can play a role in solar aircraft as well as the buildings and autonomous vehicles of the future is inspiring.
Steve Rodgers, a consultant at ZyynTek Sensors, believes it is easy to be inspired in an event with comprehensive programming and an expansive Exhibit Hall.
“Many of the world-class events in our industry concentrate on either the conference or the exhibition,” said Rodgers. “CAMX does both and does them both very well. There is so much good content that it is like a three-ring circus.”
Rodgers says there’s a lot to take in, but thanks to the CAMX app, he’ll be prepared for 2017. “Certainly, if one is limited to one industry conference per year, this one is worthy of the most serious consideration,” he says. “Just be diligent to get hold of the [CAMX] app and do your planning in advance in order to maximize the value of your experience.”
CAMX 2016 By the Numbers
CAMX 2016 was a tremendous success. If you missed this year’s CAMX – or if you attended but weren’t able to see everything – check out what you missed by viewing the highlights. Here are key statistics from the composites and advanced materials premier industry event:
