Keynote Speakers Inspire CAMX Attendees to Innovate


As ACMA Board Chairman Jeff Craney of Crane Composites and Rick Willardson of SAMPE welcomed attendees to the CAMX General Session, Craney encouraged participants to “change your vantage point; take the opportunity to be open to what you see. Think about what’s possible, and don’t worry about how to get there or if you have all the answers.” The three keynote speakers certainly embody those principles.

Congratulations to CAMX Award Winners, two cutting-edge innovations that have significantly impacted composites and advanced materials. The award is divided into two categories: Combined Strength and Unsurpassed Innovation. The winner (see photo) of this year’s Combined Strength Award is Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) for its innovative multi-material decklid concept. The winner of this year’s Unsurpassed Innovation Award is Kreysler & Associates for its ultra-lightweight and fire-resistant fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) cladding panel system.

CAMX Presents Poster Award Recognizing Outstanding Research


This year’s Poster Session winner comes from Lorena Fernández-Cañadas, Inés Iváñez, and Sonia Sanchez-Saez from the University Carlos III of Madrid and Ever Barbero from West Virginia University for their paper, Influence of the Adhesive Thickness on the Energy Release Rate of Adhesively-Bonded Composite Repairs. The runner ups in the Poster Session were:

  • Thomas Mustard, Jeffrey Sanders, Matthew Halls, Alexander Goldberg, Shaun Kwak, Jacob Gavartin, and Stephen Christensen, Schrodinger, Inc. – Atomic-Scale Simulation for the Analysis and Optimization of Advanced Thermoset Composites

CAMX Launches New Conference Feature – CAMX Race


Today, over 20 students and young professionals joined the first CAMX Race. The new CAMX feature, sponsored by BYK and Polynt Composites, tested their industry knowledge and provided a fun, collaborative team exercise. Teams of 2-3 explored the exhibit hall in search of strategically placed QR codes to answer questions on their smartphones and win cash prizes. Winners will be announced during a special reception this afternoon.

CAMX Closing Luncheon Showcases the Next Generation of the Industry

A panel of students, the next generation of innovators and industry leaders, shared what inspires them about the potential of composites and advanced material, as well as their views about the expectations and challenges for the future of our industry. The panel was moderated by Leon Garoufalis, President and COO of Composites One. Student panelists were:
