CAMX 2016: Composites Blowing in the Wind

More and More Composites Blowing in the Wind

Image 1

Wind energy is putting the uncertainty that was the hallmark of this industry in the rearview mirror. Electricity from this renewable resource is cheaper and more competitive than it’s ever been — and getting more so. And with a five-year Production Tax Credit (PTC) on the books in the United States, the outlook for wind growth is strong — everywhere. This massive consumer of composite materials has a bright future indeed. More.

Preview: CAMX Awards and ACE Finalists Announced

If composites are “the materials of the future,” then CAMX 2016 is the best place to experience the future today. The most innovative displays of composite technology can be seen at the CAMX Awards and Awards for Composites Excellence (ACE) booths. These prestigious awards honor cutting-edge innovation and outstanding composite products.  Read on to find out the 2016 Award finalists for both competitions.

The ACE sponsored by Composites One, recognizes outstanding developments in design, manufacturing and market growth. This year’s finalists feature the latest developments in pultrusion, 3D printing, architectural and automotive composites, thermoplastics, Internet of Things (IoT) and Out of Autoclave (OoA) technology, among others.  See the full list of entries here.

“Composites One has sponsored ACE for nearly 20 years because we company believe in composites innovation and the limitless potential of the industry,” said Marcy Offner, Director of Marketing Communications at Composites One and Chair of the CAMX Steering Committee. “We are committed to supporting CAMX and the growing engine of new and inventive products that are changing the landscape of technology and manufacturing like this year’s ACE finalists”.

“Composites manufacturers are true entrepreneurs who understand how our products can be used to build new and exciting things, often replacing more traditional materials,” Offner says. “Every year we look forward to seeing how they envision new uses of composites and advanced materials to make better more innovative products.”

The CAMX Award, sponsored by Ashland, embodies the spirit of CAMX – Combined Strength and Unsurpassed Innovation – and recognizes two cutting-edge innovations that will significantly impact composites and advanced materials. The Combined Strength Award acknowledges a product that incorporates composites materials that solves a problem through teamwork and collaboration, and the Unsurpassed Innovation Award celebrates a product with a design that can change the outlook of a particular market.

This year’s CAMX Award finalists confront evolving questions within our industry:  How can we change the paradigm of how certain markets can be approached? How does the automotive market look to composites beyond traditional methods for lightweighting? How will composites be used to shape our infrastructure and the buildings of the future? All of the finalists also have potential to change the way you look at composite materials themselves.

“The CAMX Award aligns with Ashland’s goal of developing practical, innovative, and elegant solutions to complex problems, always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, and advancing the growth of the composites industry, and our customers, through new applications across diverse industries,” said Andy Beer, VP Global Marketing & North American Composites at Ashland.
