Dr. Charlie Kuehmann, VP of Materials Engineering for SpaceX and Tesla and leader in computational materials design will share insights in materials innovation from the automotive and aerospace sectors.

September 26, 2018 (Arlington, VA) – The fifth annual CAMX – The Composites and Advanced Materials Expo, the premier composites and advanced materials conference and trade show in North America, will kick-off on October 16 in Dallas, TX, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center with the CAMX Live! General Session featuring Dr. Charlie Kuehmann, current VP of Materials Engineering for both SpaceX and Tesla Motors and former product design leader at Apple. The session is sponsored by Composites One.

To an expected audience of over 8000 composites industry leaders and professionals, Dr. Kuehmann will share his insights on delivering materials innovations in areas such as high-speed travel, electric cars and space travel. Additionally, he’ll share numerous advantages of working in both automotive and aerospace, and why its advantageous to leverage technologies and materials across both sectors.

CAMX Show Director Heather Rhoderick stated, “CAMX is thrilled to welcome Dr. Charlie Kuehmann to present to our audience. As an industry leader at Apple and now SpaceX and Tesla, he has valuable knowledge and expertise within two major market segments for the composites industry—a unique position to identify and share trends and opportunities with this year’s CAMX attendees. This will be a rare, “can’t-miss” opportunity to hear directly from an executive within two groundbreaking companies that are shaping the future of our world.”

Dr. Kuehmann has been a leader in computational materials design since its inception. In creating the first company dedicated to commercializing computational materials design, he’s innovated the first materials and alloys from this new technology; from high-performance steels for race cars, aluminum alloys for aircraft, gear materials for helicopters, high-temperature alloys for turbine engines, and even bubble-gum. As the computational materials design revolution has gained momentum, and been embraced by government and private R&D organizations through the Accelerated Insertion of Materials and Materials Genome Initiative, he has brought the technology to the consumer electronics industry and most recently to electric vehicles and spacecraft. Dr. Kuehmann currently leads the materials engineering organizations at both Tesla and SpaceX, driving material solutions to enable the world’s transition to a sustainable future, the commercialization of space and a multi-planetary civilization.

The CAMX Live! General Session will be open to all attendees and exhibitors at CAMX 2018. To learn more and attend, visit www.thecamx.org to review the full conference program and registration and housing details.
